 Noel Hickey |
In January, 1968, Noel and Bobby Hickey visited Ocala, Florida for the first time. They had been told that it was an excellent area in which to raise thoroughbreds due to the limestone rich soil and water. They returned to Ocala the following January and bought 320 acres of prime land made up of open pasture and towering oak trees, an idyllic setting which they named Irish Acres Farm.
After a banking career in Ireland and Canada, Noel set out on his own, moving from Vancouver to Montreal, and specializing in Mutual Funds. During this time, he was building a racing stable. Before long he was one of the leading owner/trainers at Blue Bonnets which held thoroughbred meetings at that time. Noel then left the world of business to become a full time horseman.
